Starting this year Artist‘s Menu hosts Brazilian artist Joana Quiroga. Chair of New Media Art is opening its door to its first artists in residence under the framework of Artist's Menu project. Joana is one of the instigator that helped this project come to life.
What will be done?
Joana will introduce students with her field of practice. Together they will explore new artist material and field research practice. Joana will be working on her years long project. Project “Fermento” explores literal and abstract concept of “invisible life”. In order to discuss some subjects like our perception and our attention to what is around us, our perception of time, our relationship to what makes us alive, death and decay as natural and necessary processes and as sources of more life, intuition, autonomy. “Fermento” uses wildly leavened bread as what I call an “invisibility catcher” to explore this subjects.
Her project Fermento Research is an investigation about the invisible, proposed to the students of the New Media Art department of the Academy of Arts of Novi Sad. Her project foresees the creation of a yeast in Novi Sad Academy - a process that takes approximately 15 days -, and then make a bread with this starter and share it periodically, in an open studio or exhibition. Working with the microorganisms present on the air, each student will chose an invisible aspect to explore. They will create an sourdough starter as a way to make the invisible aspects of their environment visible. In this way she will be researching the literal and abstract concept of “invisible life”. Her idea is to discuss how our perception and our attention to what is around us can be transformed into something visible and collaborative.
